Even it’s also called “Festival of Sacrifice” due to a holy Islamic story behind it. Do you know what made this day a Festival of Sacrifice? So, let’s know where it originated and why it’s celebrated.

The story behind Eid Al-Adha

Every festival has its own historic reason where our ancestors and almighty had performed such a great task at their time which has given that day and even that person such great importance in our religion. Similarly, today’s festival also has its certain story and related to Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim who was also regarded as Messenger of God.

It is believed that the festival of Bakrid started by Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim. He was considered to be the Prophet of Allah (अल्लाह के पैगंबर). Ibrahim continued to work for the welfare of the people throughout his life. He served the people a lot. But he did not have any children until the age of 90. For this, he prayed to God (Allah) and luckily he got blessed with a son named Ismail. On one day, Allah came in his dream and ordered him that he would have to sacrifice what he loved.  He obeyed the command of Allah and sacrificed all his beloved animal. One day Hazrat Ibrahim had this dream again when he pledged to sacrifice his son. He sacrificed his beloved son by blindfolding him and when he opened his eyes, he found that his son was alive and playing. Rather, a goat was sacrificed there instead. Since then it’s believed that the practice of sacrificing a goat has been started.

Know how Eid Al Adha is celebrated

On Eid Al Adha, Muslims sacrifice their beloved goat. A few days before Bakrid, a goat has to be bought at home and so that they can build a bond of attachment with him. Those who have reared goat in their homes, they sacrifice that goat. On the day of Bakrid, people of the Muslim community offer al-Namaz and then starts the ritual practice of goat sacrificing. After the sacrifice, the goat meat is divided into three parts. In these three parts of meat, one part is kept for the poor, the second part is distributed among relatives and the third part is kept for themselves. Experts say that this advice has been given in Sharia.
