As a vibrant culmination of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, the nation is gearing up to mark its 77th Independence Day with unprecedented zeal. The iconic Red Fort in Delhi will once again stand witness to history as Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads the country in commemorating the occasion on August 15, 2023.

Approximately 1,800 individuals from diverse professions and regions, along with their spouses, have been extended invitations to join the Independence Day festivities at the Red Fort. This remarkable initiative, in line with the Government’s vision of ‘Jan Bhagidari’ or people’s participation, exemplifies the nation’s unity and diversity.

75 couples from each State/Union Territory, clad in their traditional attire, are invited to this grand event. This gesture aims to imbue the celebration with the rich heritage and ethos of every region, thereby unifying the spirit of India.

The invited Special Guests constitute a broad spectrum of society. The list includes more than 400 Sarpanches from over 660 vibrant villages, 250 individuals from the Farmer Producer Organisations scheme, and 50 participants each from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. The event also recognizes the contribution of 50 Shram Yogis from the Central Vista Project, encompassing the monumental New Parliament Building. Additionally, 50 representatives from sectors such as Khadi workers, border road constructors, and participants in the Amrit Sarovar and Har Ghar Jal Yojana have been invited. The gathering will also include 50 primary school teachers, nurses, and fishermen.

As part of their itinerary, some Special Guests will visit the National War Memorial and meet with Raksha Rajya Mantri Ajay Bhatt, offering them a unique insight into the nation’s defense and security.

The Independence Day celebrations will mark the grand finale of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, a series of events launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12, 2021, at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This ambitious initiative seeks to invigorate the nation’s pursuit of development and progress, guided by the vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.

Moreover, as a part of the celebrations, the Ministry of Defence is conducting an online selfie contest on the MyGov portal from August 15 to 20. Each installation will yield one winner, resulting in 12 individuals receiving a prize of ₹10,000 each.

As the country gears up for Independence Day, the Red Fort stands as a symbol of the nation’s unity, progress, and collective efforts that have led to this momentous occasion. The presence of guests from all around the country reiterates the vision of a harmonious and prosperous India.
