UNHRC votes for high-level investigation against alleged defiance by Russia in Ukraine

The UN Human Rights Council voted to conduct a high-level investigation to violations happened during the attack that Russia began against Ukraine last week. There are over 13 countries (including India, Venezuela, Pakistan and China) restricted from giving their votes or opinion. Out of the available 47 seats of UNHRC, the council need at least 32 votes majority to organize high level probe for the violation. According to Ukrainian ambassador, “I thank all those who voted for the right cause”. The voting on Friday was also followed by appointment of three investigating officers to identify the actual facts, situation, and causes of such violation and to establish evidence against the fact with the motive to held the responsible behind this accountable.

The Geneva council also criticised the act, “in the strongest possible terms the human rights violations and abuses and violations of international humanitarian law resulting from the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine”.
