Indian Government Banned 54 Chinese Apps that might be a threat to the country

According to the  Union Ministry of Electronics And Information Technology, it had been informed by MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) to block 54 Chinese apps as per the emergency provision of IT Act Section (69 A). The list of banned apps contain the following –

  1. Sweet Selfie HD,
  2. Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera,
  3. Equalizer & Bass Booster,
  4. CamCard for SalesForce Ent,
  5. Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite,
  6. Viva Video Editor,
  7. Tencent Xriver,
  8. Onmyoji Chess,
  9. Onmyoji Arena,
  10. AppLock and
  11. Dual Space Lite.

The report shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that these apps have either been cloned or comprised of similar functionality and security threats like those banned by the government previously in 2020. Previously, over 59 apps were banned by the govt., later to which 118 and 43 apps were banned respectively one after the other.

IT ministry has said, “These collected real-time data are being misused and transmitted to servers located in a hostile country. This will enable them to compile huge personal data to mine, collate, analyze and profile by the elements who are hostile to the sovereignty and integrity of India and for activities detrimental to national security”.
