P.V Sindhu became the first Indian World Badminton Champion on Sunday. This stupendously talented Indian daughter defeated Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the final of the Women’s Single of World Badminton Championship. Currently, she is ranking World’s No.5 shuttler. She won 21-7 and 21-7 in a 38-minute title match in Basel, Switzerland.
Along with this, she also avenged the defeat from Okuhara in 2017 in the tournament. It’s her first gold medal in the World Championship, while the 5th medal overall. Now she has the full sets of medals two silver in 2017 and 2018, bronze medal in 2013 and 2014 and now a gold medal of 2019.
Tremendous start in the first 16 minutes game
In the first game which lasted 16 minutes, the Indian shuttler made a tremendous start and took an 8–1 lead over the Japanese player taking 7 consecutive points. During this time, World No.4 Nozomi failed miserably on the net and Sindhu took its advantage. She kept the pressure here and made a loud smash, to which the opposition player had no answer. Her lead improved to 11-2 at the break in the first game.
After the break, the Japanese shuttler tried to compete, but could not succeed. Between the long rallies, Sindhu took the lead 16-2 with 5 consecutive points. Well, Nozomi gets 2 points here, but there the outshot of Sindhu played the role. After this, the Indian shuttler did not give any chance to the Japanese shuttler and took the game in her favour with 21-7.
The second game was also one-sided
Even in the second round, Sindhu overshadowed Okuhara. The game had an interesting start and lasted for 22 minutes. Sindhu took the lead 16-4 with 5 consecutive points. Okuhara scored 3 points here, but Sindhu won the game by winning the game 21-7. With this victory, she has also equalized the win-loss margin against Okuhara by 8-8.
