Amazon Opened its Globally Largest and First Owned Office in Hyderabad

US-based global e-commerce giant Amazon opened its largest and first owned campus outside its base country in Hyderabad, India. It’s the second global largest building and spread across 9.5 acres which can accommodate 15000 employees. Well, the company laid the foundation stone of this building three years ago on March 30, 2016.

“With 15,000 work points across 1.8 million sq ft in office space, built on three million sq ft of construction area, this is Amazon’s single largest building in the world in terms of total area,” Company said.

The inauguration was done yesterday by the Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Amazon Vice-President Global Real Estate and Facilities Director John Schoettler and Amazon-India Senior Vice-President and Country Manager Amit Agarwal.

In 2004, Amazon started its operations in Hyderabad and now strengthening its focus on Indian Talent. Currently, Hyderabad is home to a third of the company’s total India employee base across six offices, which also includes the new campus building. However, the company has already made an investment of $5 Billion in India and aiming to invest $500 Million in food retail.

Over these last 15 years, we have invested significantly in India across 30 office spaces, the AWS APAC Region in Mumbai, 50 Fulfilment Centres in 13 states of India as well as hundreds of delivery stations and sort centres, creating nearly 200,000 jobs in India. This new Amazon campus building is a tangible commitment to that long-term thinking and our plans for India” said Amit Agarwal, SVP and Country Manager, Amazon India.

The workspaces available inside are casual and collaborative both which also includes the private areas for concentration and confidentiality. The building has mothers’ room, quiet rooms, showers, interfaith prayer rooms, a helipad, and 24×7 open cafeteria which are designed with a motive to facilitate inclusion and diversity. There are 290 conference rooms and 3 scrum areas on every floor to boost collaboration. Building’s every detailing is aimed to improve the efficiency and well-being of the employee.
