Just after the Diwali celebration that took place a week ago in Ayodhya, Varanasi is all set for a magnificent “Deepotsav” along the banks of the river Ganga on Monday. The officials handling the celebration said over 14 lakh earthen lamps would be lit up on both sides of the river Ganga for the occasion of auspicious Dev Deepawali.

PM Narendra Modi will be visiting the city to take participate in the celebrations near the Ganga ghats. A senior tourism department’s official said, ” While nine lakh diyas would be illuminated on the Ganga ghats, other five lakh would be on the sandy bank. This is the first time ever when the earthen lamps will be illuminated on the sandy bank of the river Ganga. He even added that a laser show would also be a major attraction of this Dev Deepawali”.

several committees have been set up just to make sure that the event is a grand success. Governor Anandiben Patel and chief minister Yogi Adityanath are also expected to show their presence at the event.

PM Modi also shared a tweet confirming his presence at the event taking place at Varanasi.

Reason to celebrate Dev Deepawali

It is believed that Kartik Purnima is celebrated on be the Deepavali of divinities. To celebrate the day, even deities are believed to descend from paradise in concealed identities on the holy Ganges ghats to ensure the sanctification of the devotees who are part of the Maha Aarti. The festival is an eminent part of Kashi’s ancient culture and is even mentioned in the Hindu holy scripture Shiva Purana.
