Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Sikkim are going to reopen their schools for students of class 9th to 12th from today. The schools were shut for the past 6-7 months due to the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Although, the schools that are not in the containment zones can be opened as per the Unlock 5 guidelines.
Schools of these three states are allowed to reopen with the strength of 50 percent of students per day maintaining the norms of social distancing.
Unlock 5 guidelines for Uttar Pradesh
As per the Unlock 5 guidelines, schools in Uttar Pradesh will be reopening for only classes 9 to 12 and the students are allowed only to go with the consent of their parents. Classes will be conducted in two shifts. In the first shift, classes of 9th and 10th will be carried out with timings from 8:50 am to 3:50 pm. And in the second shift, they will teach the students of class 11 and 12 from 12:20 pm to 3:20 pm.
Online and offline classes will be conducted simultaneously without putting any pressure on students to come. 50% of students will come on one day and the rest 50% of the strength will come another day. No child is allowed to enter without a mask. There will be daily sanitization, cleaning of classrooms and school premises, furniture, canteen, etc.
Guidelines for schools in Punjab
Punjab is also reopening schools for classes 9 to 12 just like Uttar Pradesh. Similarly, schools are reopening in the areas outside of containment zones and with the strength of 50% of students. Online classes will not be dismissed and will continue as earlier. Parents have to check if their ward is wearing a facemask or else entry is not permitted.
It is the call of the parents whether they are willing to send their ward to schools or not.
Unlock 5 guidelines for Sikkim
Schools in Sikkim have refused any winter vacation this year and schools will be for 6 days a week with Saturday as a half-day. There will be no change in government holidays. This academic year will end on Feb 13th, 2021. And the next session will start by Feb 15th, 2021. State govt. has prepared a calendar as per which schools have to prepare before reopening. They have to collect the contact details of the parents of each student and to ensure a proper clean and hygienic environment.
Classes 11 and 12 will be starting from 19th October 2020 and every student has to carry the written permission of parents. Classes 6-8 will resume its functioning from November 2nd and classes 3-5 on November 3rd only if the parents want to send their ward.
Schools of Lucknow are also reopening from 19th October that was earlier being reopened on 15th October 2020.
