Maharashtra CM, Uddhav Thackeray has taken an initiative to support the Marathi speakers living in the areas on the border of Maharashtra and Karnataka. In this initiative, he has asked all of his ministers to wear a black band today on 1st November. The step has drawn praise for the ministers wearing black bands from Marathi speaking people at the border and received criticism from the Action Committee of Kannadiga Organization.
This state cabinet of Ministers took a major step before this week, by ASKING THE ALL cabinet ministers to wear black bands on “Black Day” experienced in the Maharashtra-Karnataka border areas.
The reason to choose 1st November, a suitable day was that Karnataka came into existence on 1st November 1960. Kannadigas commemorate this day as a “Rajyotsav”. Professor Anand Menase, recalled the day and shared, “It was in January 1956, after the report of the Reorganisation of States Commission, that it was decided to merge Belgaum and 10 talukas of Bombay Presidency into the then Mysore state. Later, these talukas became part of Karnataka”
