The number of deaths in Chamoli, Uttarakhand’s glacier eruption has crossed the score of 35 whereas over 204 people are still missing and there is no information about them as per the state govt. on Thursday. The rescue operation is started again with the start of the drilling operation of the Tapovan tunnel at 2 am deep enough to see up to 12 to 13 meters beneath. The operations were paused for some time since the drilling machine had a breakdown. As per the DGP of Uttarakhand, “We were undertaking rescue operation in the big tunnel to remove debris till yesterday. We have also started drilling in a smaller diameter tunnel to see what is inside. But it has been suspended temporarily as the machine broke down.”

35 dead bodies have been recovered so far, from multiple areas that have been hit with the glacier burst in Chamoli. It is assumed that around25-35 persons are still trapped in the Tapovan tunnel. Baby Rani Maurya, Uttarakhand Governor also visited the rescue operation site at Chamoli. She also met the ITBP officials involved in the rescue operation.

The ITBP troops have helped to construct a temporary bridge that is now connecting 12-13 villages in Chamoli. These villages have been disconnected from other parts due to the heavy flood imposed by the eruption of glaciers. This bridge that the troops are helping to construct will be used to take ration and other important things from one side to another side of the bridge.
