The commercial launch of Reliance Jio GigaFiber is set for 5th September 2019. At the 42nd Annual Grand Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) held on 12th August, the company’s chairman Mukesh D Ambani made the announcement that along with Jio GigaFiber customers will be also given the fixed-line phone service. Previously, the service named was Jio Fixed Voice Service and now the company is calling it Jio Home Phone. First, it was seen in April 2019 when the company was testing it with some limited GigaFiber customers. However, now the company has started rolling it out to Jio Fiber users on a large scale.
RIL has confirmed that calling will be free inside India for users in Jio Home Phone, but they will have to pay for the data. For international calling, they have to purchase Rs. 500 plan in which unlimited international calling is allowed for countries like the US and Canada. The worth noting point is that company is only providing a Jio Fiber router device in which the landline equipment is connected. For availing the free calling services, users have to purchase the landline equipment.
How to activate a Jio Home Phone?
The existing Jio Fiber users can activate Jio Home Phone for free calling from landline through MyJio app. For this, you have to follow listed below steps.
- First of all, go to the MyJio app on your smartphone and select the Jio GigaFiber account. Don’t be confused here because the name of JioFiber has been now changed to Jio GigaFiber.
- Here you have to tap on recharge option and as you tap on it you will find a pop-up window has appeared on the screen to explain the activation process.
- During this process, Jio will send an OTP to the registered mobile number for this service.
- On
entering the OTP, the Jio Home Phone Landline service will be
activated on your Jio Fiber connection.
After the service activation, a number will be given to your landline connection on behalf of Jio, which your friends and family members will use to call you. After the completion of the activation process, the landline equipment (landline phone) you have purchased will have to be connected to the RJ11 phone cable. A port is provided at the back of the Jio Fiber router to connect the cable.
Jio Home phone activation for the new users
Unlike the existing users, new users will not have to go through the above steps for Jio Home Phone activation. They will be given their landline number at the time of their Jio Fiber installation.
Use Jio Home Phone even without a landline
With Jio Home Phone, Jio is also offering the smartphone calling facility to its users. This will help the users to make calls from their smartphone without a SIM card because calling is possible with the help of Jio Broadband service. Follow the listed below steps to avail free smartphone calling facility.
- To make free calls from the smartphone with JioFiber, go to the JioCall app in the device. Here, you have to configure the Jio Fixed Voice No.
- When you open the app for configuration then you will find three options –Mobile, JioFi and Fixed.
- Select the Fixed option and enter the details.
- After this, the Jio Call app will send you an OTP.
- Enter this OTP to complete the configuration.
- After completing the configuration you can use JioCall app for outgoing and incoming calls.
Only Jio Network for Jio Call
The best part of using the Jio Home Phone is all the contacts will be fetched in the app. It means you are not required to go to the contact list to make a call. When you tap on the contact for calling then you will get the option of Fixed-line call or Fixed-line video call. However, Jio calling will work only on Jio network. You cannot use it on any other Internet or mobile network.
