Himanta Biswa Sarma take over as Assam CM

After the resignation of Governor Jagdish Mukhi, CM Sarbananda Sonowal suggested the name of Himanta Biswa Sarma for the same post. BJP face, Himanta Biswa Sarma from Northeast India will be declared as 15th Chief Minister of Assam on Monday. The outgoing Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Dr. Sarma joined Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday afternoon and put ahead BJP’s right to form the government.

Before that Mr. Sonowal gives his resignation to the post of Governor, flagging the way for his junior colleague to succeed him. Well, both the leaders had cut their political roots in the Whole Assam Students’ Union.

The BJP got 60 seats out of 126 in the Assam Assembly election. Its partners, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) got nine and six seats, individually.

Earlier Mr. Sonowal suggests the name of Dr. Sarma as the Chief Minister at the BJP Legislature Party meeting, with the closing week of speculation above who will take control of the new government. The State president of BJP Ranjeet Kumar Dass and MLA-elect Nandita Garlosa seconded the program.

But party coconspirator said Dr. Sarma was possible to be the Finance, Health, and Home portfolios with him. He managed Finance and Health in the Sonowal government and earlier in the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government.

Mr. Sonowal stated that he was so sure with Dr. Sarma leading the Assam smoothly and strengthening the BJP. “We ensure to maintain peace, progress, and security so that people will re-elect us. He also stated I have trust in Himanta, he will help people honestly and fight corruption.

On Friday Mr. Sonowal expressed that he doesn’t have any plan to move to the Centre, he is happy to serve his constituency Majuli as an MLA.

Dr. Sarma stated that Mr. Sonowal’s “clean tenure” was an asset in the first non-Congress government handling to hold power in Assam. Also, he gives credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the electoral victory for the northeast.

On Monday the ceremony of oath-taking would be held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on the southern edge of Guwahati. And during the time Dr. Sarma said “I assure you for the value-based politics that remain in our endeavor and made the five best states in India”.

The Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metropolitan) said, “The ceremony will be organized with safety measures of COVID-19 protocols,” Biswajit Pegu.
