An idol of Goddess Maa Annapurna stolen from a temple in Varanasi, 100 years ago, was found in Canada lately is all set to be bought back to the country to its old place in Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. Once the idol reached Delhi was taken to Aligarh to take it to Kanauj on 12th November and then on 14th November it was carried to Ayodhya and now it is ready to reach its eventual destination i.e. Kashi Vishwanath. UP CM Adityanath Yogi will sanctify the idol which has 17cm height, 9cm breadth, and 4cm thickness.
The Maa Annapurna idol’s return comes into notice with the many similar items that have been identified and returned to India in the past few years. According to a news source, there are over 157 artifacts related to Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism along with other cultural antiquities handed over to the Indian government.

The previous year, three idols stolen from Rajagopalaswamy temple in Tamil Nadu 42 years ago were brought back from London. There has been consistent identification of idols from temples of India that were stolen in the past.
