The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced today the contenders for the “ICC Player of the Month” Awards for February. Indian spin bowler R Ashwin is also one of the nominated candidates for this esteemed honor due to his terrific performance in the Test series as opposed to England. Besides R Ashwin, England captain Joe Root and West Indies all-rounder player Kyle Mayers are also nominated for the February month in the men’s category.
Remarkably, Ashwin has played 3 test matches against England in India’s ongoing series against the former and has been in his fruitful form. He scored a 106 in the second round of India’s second Test victory over England in Chennai and records his 400 Test wicket in the third Test victory in Ahmedabad.
With a score total of 176 runs across the games and taking 24 wickets, Ashwin is one of the most deserving candidates to be in nomination in the men’s category for February.
England’s Test captain Joe Root also made his place on the list of nominations once more this month for his stupendous performance with the bat and the ball.

He created a score of 333 runs and took 6 wickets in the 3 Test matches he played against India. In the first Test against India, Joe made 218 to lead England to victory.
From the West Indies, Test rookie Mayers also has played 2 Tests against Bangladesh and scored a 210 to help the West Indies win successfully by chasing 395 and win his first Test against Bangladesh. This performance of Mayers alone is worthy of the nomination.
