Shehbaz Sharif is the new elected Prime Minister of Pakistan

Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan is expelled from the post with a no-confidence motion after a 12 hours long debate in the National Assembly. Shehbaz Sharif, brother of Nawaz Sharif, three-time prime minister, a 70-year-old leader of the opposition party is selected to be the new Prime Minister of the country. PTI leader (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf) Shah Mahmood Qureshi was also in the race for the position. However, right before the session, the members of the PTI, resigned PM Imran Khan led en masse, ending the disagreement with Qureshi.

It was a one in the historic moment when the prime minister was expelled with the no-confidence motion. The session in the National Assembly was chaired by Ayaz Sadiq, after Asad Qasier gave resignation from his post. Ayaz Sadiq announced, “174 members have recorded their votes in favor of the resolution, consequently the resolution for the vote on no-confidence against Mr. Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan, has been passed by a majority” after the voting process completion.
