Karnataka farmers followed a state-wise bandh today imposed by the farmers’ organisation against the alterations made to the Agricultural Produce Market Committee and land reforms act that was introduced by the BS Yeiyurappa govt. The protest is being supported by the pro-Kannada and other outfits except the Congress and JDs who are against the amendment bills in assembly. Police team is also making enough security measures to check that no untoward incident happen.
The bill has evoked up the controversy among farmers and several political parties. Amarinder Singh, Punjab’s Chief Minister said his government is trying to check out all such options and amendments to the state laws in order to protect farmers’ interests and rights over the farm bill.
Delhi police informed that a group of 15-20 Congress workers from the protestors sets a tractor on fire at India Gate on Monday morning. Consent of President Ram Nath Kovind on three farm bills triggered the protest across the farmers in the country.
Punjab is experiencing a complete shutdown or “bandh” called on by the 31 farmers’ group that are protesting under the Bhartiya Kisan Union banner. Sidhu Moosewala, a Punjabi singer said, “we will not stop our fight here. It will continue”.
Congress party leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi both, of whom have been continuously against the bills, tweeted again today. Priyanka said, “They (the farmers) will be forced to become slaves of trillions through contract farming.” Mr Gandhi said: “… The new agriculture laws will enslave our farmers”.
