PM Modi inaugurated India’s first driverless train today for the Magenta Line of Delhi Metro. He also launched a highly operational “National Common Mobility Card” service over the Airport Express Line through video conferencing.
During the inauguration, PM said, his government compared to its predecessors has taken budding urbanization as a fortuity and affirmed that metro services will be elongated to 25 cities by the year 2025 from the current being 18.
He even deplored that when urbanization got stride a few decades back, enough consideration was not given to the requirements of the forthcoming. According to his statement, urbanization must not be taken as a challenge. Rather it must be taken as an opportunity to make better infrastructure and improve people’s life by making it easier.
He said, “In 2014, only 248 km of metro lines were operational in the country and today it is about three times, more than 700 kilometers. By the year 2025, we are working to expand it to 1,700 km”.
He stated that the “First metro train in the nation was launched by the efforts of honorable Atal Ji. When our govt was established in 2014, just 5 cities had metro services available and today over 18 cities have metro services. By the year 2025, we will take this to more than 25 cities.”
Considering the “Make in India” program, the PM said, “Make in India is very crucial for the growth of metro train services. It helps in reducing cost, saving foreign money, and imparts more occupation to an Indian citizen.”
The first pilot-less trains will be entirely automated, which will abolish the chances of human error. After the commencement of these driverless train services on the Magenta Line ( from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden), the Pink Line (from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar) on Delhi Metro is likely to have driverless operations to begin by mid-2021.
