The government of Uttar Pradesh extended the timings for night curfew in Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, and other 7 districts in UP with more than 2,000 active COVID-19 cases. The night curfew in these districts will begin at 8 pm and will continue till 7 am from today.
The 10 districts where the timings for night curfew have been modified are Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Kanpur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut Gorakhpur, and Noida.
The UP government had earlier announced comprehensive limitations like night curfew in Noida, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Moradabad, and other districts due to the threat of increasing COVID-19 cases.
This rule comes a day later when Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest single-day increase of Covid-19 cases as 20,510 fresh infections were reported in the last 24 hours. This is known to be the biggest surge in daily cases in UP since the pandemic outbreak.
The state previously reported its highest single-day spike on Tuesday of 18,021 cases, which then increased to over 20,000 today. The spikes in infections have marked the active cases of tally 1, 11,835 in the state. The cities to be the worst hit in the state are Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The government has also delayed the state Board exams for Classes 10 and 12, while all schools from 1 to 12 classes will also stay closed till May 15. The government officials said that new dates will be announced in May after the review of the situation in the state.
Earlier, the board examinations were planned to start on May 8. This is the second time when the Board exams have been postponed. The exams were scheduled to held from April 24 but were pushed ahead due to the Panchayat elections. The next date was planned as May 8 which has now been rescheduled.
