All the states have started strategizing for the vaccination drive prior to India’s coronavirus vaccination drive that will initiate on January 16. PM Narendra Modi called this a “landmark step further in fighting COVID-19”. Delhi became the first to announce the Covid-19 vaccination schedule for healthcare workers, who will be vaccinated in phase 1 of the drive.
Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, Priority will be the one crores healthcare workers and the other two crores frontline staff, who have been in fighting the pandemic. The vaccine will be free for this group. The next group will be people over 50, followed by those under 50 but with concomitant diseases. Over 30 crores of people are to be vaccinated in the first phase.

Highlights
- Assam has reported one more death of COVID-19, taking the death count to 1,061, while the count escalated to 2,16,590 with 25 new cases. The positivity rate prevailed at 3.51 percent against total testing of 61, 79,337 samples so far, it said. The state reported 29 recoveries, more than the number of new infections. Assam has 3,014 active cases, while 2, 12,512 COVID-19 patients have recovered until now.
- The Goa government has marked eight hospitals for COVID-19 vaccination first phase where around 18,000 health care workers will get the medicines. Over 100 vaccinations would be done at each of these eight facilities in a day, which amounts to 800 inoculations per day. State immunization Officer told, “The state govt. has identified five government hospitals and three private facilities where the vaccine would be to health care workers”. The selected government hospitals are – Goa Medical College (near Panaji), Hospicio Hospital (Margao), Asilo Hospital (Mapusa), Chicalim Health Centre (Vasco), Sub District Hospital (Ponda).
