Jamia University Administration

On the sudden attack of the police at the prestigious University of Delhi Jamia Milia Islamia, VC Dr Najma Akhtar expressed her grief via a video message. He said “I am hurt by the way my students were treated. I want to let my students know that they are not alone in this fight. I am with them. I will take this matter forward as long it’s possible,”

“The university will demand a high-level inquiry into the entry of police personnel into the campus without permission,” Professor Akhtar said at a PC on Monday afternoon.

“Police have entered the campus by force, no permission was given. Our staff and students are being beaten up and forced to leave the campus,” Waseem Ahmed Khan, Chief Proctor of Jamia ( a statement quoted by one news agency)

Opposition

The opposition parties have come forward against the citizenship law. They condemned the brutal actions of Delhi Police on the Jamia Millia Islamia University students and also demanded an inquiry by Supreme Court Judge into the yesterday incidents where students being thrashed brutally in the university. All the opposition parties have surrounded the central government today by holding a press conference. They have questioned Home Minister Amit Shah on the police action. During this period, Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress, Sitaram Yechury of CPI, D. Raja etc. were present. All demanded a judicial inquiry into this Jamia University violence case. There was a ruckus everywhere. Azad said that police entered the university and thrashed the students in the library and washroom.

PM’s appeal

PM Modi tweeted today on Sunday’ s night violence against CAB law that escalated at the two prestigious universities of India named Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi and the Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh.

“Violent protests on the Citizenship Amendment Act are unfortunate and deeply distressing. Debate, discussion and dissent are essential parts of democracy but, never has damage to public property and disturbance of normal life been a part of our ethos,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

“The need of the hour is for all of us to work together for the development of India and the empowerment of every Indian, especially the poor, downtrodden and marginalised. We cannot allow vested interest groups to divide us and create a disturbance,” he added.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act that passed last week makes easier for non-Muslims living in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to gain Indian citizenship. The opposition parties are demanding to scrap it out as according to them it creates discrimination against Muslims and also against the secular principles of the constitution.

Students

Students are claiming that they were not involved in the violence. The protest was by local people and they had joined it to support. They had nothing to do with violence. The Jamia administration has also made the same statements.
