Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Prayagraj MP, and former UP cabinet minister’s six-year-old granddaughter died today. The death is caused due to the severe burns she got during Diwali celebrations late on Monday night. The granddaughter of MP was admitted to a hospital late on Monday evening due to serious injuries from 60% burns.
Abhishek Shukla, Joshi’s media coordinator told, “The child was due to be shifted to Delhi in an air ambulance on Tuesday morning but succumbed to her injuries at around 2 am”. Rita Joshi and her husband went to their familial home in Civil Lines to celebrate Diwali. While her daughter in law and her granddaughter, also went to visit her maternal home at Ponappa road in the Cantt. area where the incident took place.
Abhishek Shukla said, “The child was playing with Diwali’s earthen lamps on the roof with other children in the afternoon when somehow her clothes caught fire. By the time, the elders could rush and douse the flames; she had sustained 60 percent burns. She was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital where her treatment began. But she could not be saved”.
MP Rita Joshi had interacted with the defense minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, and Yogi Adityanath CM of Uttar Pradesh to get her grandchild airlifted to Delhi for the treatment but she died even before this could be implemented.
He also added, “The girl was Rita Joshi’s son Mayank’s only daughter. Mayank arrived in Prayagraj on Tuesday afternoon from Delhi where he had rushed to make the necessary arrangements for the treatment. After he arrives, the last rites will be performed at Daraganj Ghat”.
