Nikita Tomar, a 21-year-old student who was killed in front of her college in Ballabhgarh, Haryana, and her family claimed that she was shot since she denied turning to Islam. Nikita’s mother told a news agency, “Our daughter was very bright. He shot her dead because he knew he could not compel her to convert to Islam… She wanted to be a government officer, had plans to go for the civil services.”
The two accused Tauseef and Rehan escaped from the spot after killing her and were travelling to Mewat before being arrested. Anil Vij, Home Minister of Haryana has set up a Special Investigation Team to act upon the case.
Tauseef and Nikita Tomar were studying together for years at Rawal International School in Faridabad.
To the incident, Singer Sona Mahapatra in Thursday tweeted from her account, “To everyone who keeps asking women to ‘follow due process’, ‘lodge a police complaint’, shames them, please note #NikitaTomar did all that and did it help? Harassment of all kinds is something we are supposed to somehow ‘navigate’ in the society we live in? Till we are raped/killed.”
Tauseef was harassing her continuously for months for which she even lodged a complaint. Other Bollywood actresses Kangana Ranaut, Swara Bhaskar, Urmila Matondkar, Bhumi Pednekar, and some other have too expressed their grief and anger to the incident.
Other two celebrities, Ranveer Shorey and Manoj Muntashir also tweeted demanding punishment for the offender.
Nikita’s brother has claimed it an attempt of “love jihad” by Tauseef. He said, “We want both of them to be hanged till death. Only then, justice will be delivered. Nothing less than phaansi (death penalty)”.
A friend of Tauseef told, “Tauseef had cleared the medical entrance NEET — in 2018. He was a good student. I don’t know what got into him”. Tauseef belongs to a family of zamindars, and politicians, having a long background of link-ups with the Congress party.
