YouTube is being noticed planning to permit its creators as well as other users to sell products directly through the platform. Google CEO, Sundar Pichai said, YouTube is flooded with the un-boxing videos, and this can be turn into a big shopping opportunity. According to a report, they are asking the creators to use YouTube to tag the products featured in their videos. This data will further be analysed and send to shopping tools from Google. The idea behind is to turn out YouTube videos to a catalogue of products that viewers can check out, tap on it and buy directly. The company is also testing to integrate Ecommerce Shopify platform for selling products via YouTube.
A spokesperson told, Creators will have full control over the products displayed in their videos. This move have the high potential to turn out YouTube from marketing tool to a big eCommerce competitor to giants like Amazon, Flipkart or Alibaba. However, the company has denied to share any more information and they call it as an experiment for now. This will be a great fortuity for Google to be more than just a listing platform for other shopping giants and start-ups.
Andy Ellwood, President of Ecommerce start-up Basket said, “YouTube is one of the least utilised assets”. “If they decide they want to invest in it, it’s a huge opportunity for them”.
Although it’s not specified, how Google owned YouTube is going to earn revenue with sales from this. However, the service has already started offering the subscriptions to creators and they will earn a commission of 30% from those earned payments by sale.
Since the details are yet not completed, we have to wait for until more information comes from Google. Hence, stay tuned for more updates.
