In April, Revolt Intellicorp released its first electric bike and it’s designed by company’s chief designer Shivam Sharma. It’s expected to be released at the end of June. As you can see in the design also it looks like a naked street fighter. At the outset, it looks like a motorcycle with an internal combustion engine and could be easily confused with a bike from a premium automaker. It features an upright seating position and an aggressive design.
Shivam Sharma said, “It was an exciting process- designing our first EV and experimenting with entirely different dynamics. Apart from the technological prowess of the product, the stance and riding position make it a perfect everyday commute. It took us six months, three different directions and seven mockups to finally arrive at the design you will see coming alive soon.”
App India News Team Tried to Contact Shivam Sharma and finally got the chance to talk to him. In the short conversation with him, we have asked a few questions about his journey.
Where you belong?
I belong to Haldwani, Uttrakhand and completed in Graphic Designing from APJ Institute of Design in New Delhi. After that, I did a Masters in Mobility and Vehicle Design from IIT Bombay.
As we have checked your portfolio, we find that your first company is Micromax?
Yes it is but “It was more like a training sort of looking visual and that I was a product designer there
After Hero, the whole thing started”.
What’s your design inspiration?
Automobile design if you say or talk about the form, then most of the people related to some kind of an aggressive animal or some kind. There is so much aggression if you will see all the different things when it comes to motorcycle, scooter or any two-wheelers. It’s more of a functional thing. So that’s why and of course. All the youngsters that we are targeting as our target group we can say. They are like they like a lot of aggressive design. For example the KTM Duke, Honda. So all of them are pretty much aggressive. Inspiration coming from one, we can see their interest, they are looking for.
What are your future plans for this new invention?
See future plans, there is a big roadmap that we are already working on. There multiple products which will be coming which will cater to the different kinds of functionality, different age groups also.
May I know the age group?
See let’s understand it from the example there is a Honda Activa which caters to a very bigger age group like the youngsters that are riding it, old people are riding and it’s comfortable with the females as well. So right now also the bike we have launched, it is basically for all. A girl can also ride the bike with ease because it’s a gearless thing. There will be no hassle for her to drive it with ease and even for those who don’t know driving. It’s more, of course, like how to drive a scooter and it will be easier than it.
How much time it will take to launch in the market?
We are working on all that and it will take a lot of time. I think currently there will be no anyone in the market as even the Honda takes 4 years to convert from a sketch into the actual mass production.
It takes about 4 years to design a motorcycle or a scooter which is completely new, a new platform and a totally new way to do everything. For us, it’s like a really aggressive market right now. We aren’t looking for such long timelines. We are already working really for a short timeline maybe a year and a half to come in the market. We can’t say a particular time because there are a lot of things on which we have to work on like testing and much more. It depends on a lot of things.
Anything about the design which you want to share with our users?
There are a lot of features in this design. We are comparing it to a 135 CC to 140 CC category and it’s not like a high-end sports bike sort of a thing but this is the very stylish commuter bike, which is light and can be handled easily. The handling is pretty much perfect for this motorcycle which everyone looks for.
There will be a great craze in the market as right now sixteen-seventeen-year-old people started riding vehicles and getting them from the govt. right now for the gearless vehicles.
As the article posted on the bike, we have seen many other features. Anything else from those features you want to say?
As you know it’s the first AI-based electronic bike There are a lot of things in the feature list. So of course like putting on a bit like an upside-down fork which is usually used in the sports motorcycle. Like. The front suspension, a new thing which is coming down in this segment. It is a mono suspension and you can see in the reared section there is earthing spring loaded monoshock. These are the mechanical features which I have talked about and the rest of the things is AI which you have already seen in the launch. We are having another launch in which we will be discussing the pricing and everything which will happen mostly in the first week of July. After one month, you will be having all the details of the functionalities.
What will be the price?
It like really aggressive pricing because we have known for that definitely. Of course, I can not disclose it currently. It’s going to happen in the next month and the next launch.
What are your personal interests which made you design such a great design of an electronic bike?
I was already working with Hero MotorCorp and spending a lot of time getting into the electric segment. Definitely for a mainstream company which is already there and I see a petrol engine in order to actually shift from this one. But of course, you see if you look at the pollution that’s the main thing. So, of course, it is a really big initiative from our side a big step in getting the industry at least have something which is very pure out of everything. Give it to the customer to enjoy. And of course like it is controlling pollution or just controlling a lot of things. It’s not only the eco-friendly thing but it’s also like very friendly to the pocket. We have to design a product which caters to a lot of different needs and stylish as well.
What are your hobbies?
Well, basically I listened to a lot of music and keeps sketching a lot.
One message for the customers waiting for the launch?
I would say it is a great product and of course we could be coming up with a lot of exciting products. As all of us try and of course like the acceptability of the product is necessary. And the acceptance of the new future because the future is also electric.
